This policy explains what FiberPlans collects, why it collects it, and what you can ask us to do with it. It applies to the website at fiberplans.info and to email sent to the address published on the contact page.
1. Who is the data controller
The data controller for this website is FiberPlans, reachable at [email protected]. That address is the single point of contact for any question about this policy, for access requests, and for complaints.
2. What this policy covers
It covers personal data processed through the website and through correspondence. It does not cover the practices of broadband providers, whose own policies apply once you visit them or sign their contract, and it does not cover third party sites we link to.
3. The data we collect
Two categories, and no more: information you send us, and information collected automatically when a page is served. We do not buy contact lists, we do not enrich records from data brokers, and we do not build advertising profiles.
4. Information you give us
If you email us, we receive your email address, your name if you sign with one, and whatever you choose to include in the message. That is the whole of it. There is no account system on this site, no newsletter that stores a profile, and no comment form that asks for a phone number.
5. Information collected automatically
Standard server and edge logs record the requested URL, the time, the response code, an approximate location derived from the network, the browser user agent, and a truncated network address. These records exist to keep the site online and to notice abuse, not to identify readers.
6. Cookies and similar technologies
The site sets no advertising cookies and no cross-site tracking cookies. A preference cookie may be stored if you interact with a collapsible element, and it expires with the session. Where a third party service is embedded, its own cookie behaviour is described in section ten.
7. Why we process data, and on what basis
Under the GDPR and UK GDPR, processing rests on three lawful bases. Legitimate interests covers serving pages, keeping logs and defending the site against abuse. Consent covers any optional analytics you explicitly accept, and that consent can be withdrawn at any time. Legal obligation covers records we must keep if a legal claim is raised.
8. Analytics
Aggregate measurement is used to see which guides are read and which are abandoned. Reports contain page counts and referrers, never individual reader histories. No analytics identifier is joined to an email address, and no profile is sold or shared for advertising.
9. Advertising and affiliate links
This site carries no display advertising and no behavioural targeting. Some outbound links may include a referral parameter; where that is the case, the presence of the parameter does not transmit anything beyond the fact that a click came from this site, and it never affects the content of a guide.
10. Sharing and processors
Data is shared only with the processors needed to run the site. Cloudflare provides the content delivery network and the TLS termination, and processes request metadata on our behalf under a data processing agreement. Hosting is provided by a server operator in the same role. No processor is permitted to use reader data for its own marketing.
11. International transfers
The site is served through a global network, so a request may be handled outside the EEA or the UK. Transfers of personal data out of the European Economic Area rely on standard contractual clauses, supplemented by a transfer impact assessment. Where a transfer cannot be justified on that basis, the data is not transferred.
12. Retention
Retention is deliberately short. Server logs are kept for fourteen months and then deleted in the ordinary course of rotation. Email correspondence is kept for twenty-four months from the last message in the thread, or until a correction is resolved, whichever is longer. Subscription records, where they exist, are kept until you unsubscribe.
13. Your rights as a data subject
As a data subject you can ask for a copy of the personal data held about you, ask for it to be corrected, ask for it to be erased, ask for processing to be restricted, and object to processing based on legitimate interests. You can also ask for portability where the data was provided by you and processed by automated means.
Requests are answered within one month. There is no charge unless a request is manifestly unfounded or repetitive. To exercise any right, write to the address in section one and say which right you are using.
14. California residents and the CCPA
Under the California Consumer Privacy Act, as amended, residents of California have the right to know what personal information is collected, the right to delete it, the right to correct it, and the right to opt out of its sale or sharing. We do not sell personal information and we do not share it for cross-context behavioural advertising, so there is nothing to opt out of, and the do not sell signal is honoured by default rather than by configuration.
15. Children
The site is written for adults managing a household contract and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under sixteen. If you believe a child has sent us personal data, write to the address in section one and it will be deleted.
16. Security
The site is served over HTTPS with current TLS, and administrative access is restricted to a single account protected by a long password. Backups are encrypted at rest. No system is perfectly secure, and we will tell readers if a breach affects their data rather than waiting to be asked.
17. Marketing communication and unsubscribe
There is no marketing list attached to this site. If that changes, any marketing communication will carry a working unsubscribe link in the footer, and unsubscribing will remove the address from the list rather than mark it inactive. Transactional replies to a message you sent are not marketing and continue while the thread is open.
18. Changes to this policy
When the policy changes, the new version replaces this one and the date at the foot of the page changes with it. Material changes are noted in the guide index so readers who care about them do not have to poll this page.
19. Complaints
If an answer about personal data does not resolve the issue, you can complain to the supervisory authority in your country of residence, or to the Information Commissioner in the United Kingdom. We would rather hear from you first, because most complaints turn out to be a misunderstanding about which records exist.
